  1. We’ll let you use SaxaVord or Sutherland spaceport if you let us back in…Just us, not worried about rUK

  2. >Europe must become “a space power once again, with France at its heart,” he said.

Ah, but of course. He also said that the EU should issue more joint debt, you know to bolster the Euro as a reserve currency (but also so that France can further deficit spend). He long argued for strategic autonomy (by buying French-made planes and missiles, of course). Also, for digital sovereignty (again, by buying into French OVH). All self-serving arguments from a career politician.

  3. Europe has never actually been a space power. When you think about space you think of 3 countries – Soviet Union,USA and China. Maybe Germany would have been a space power if Americans and Russians didn’t get all of their scientists after 1945.

  4. I can only imagine how much bureaucracy we would have to go through just to do anything remotely related to space as private citizens

  5. Honestly, no we don’t. I can’t think of a bigger waste of resources, energy and engineering capacity than doing these prestige projects of bringing people to Mars and other useless projects. Why on earth is there another space race to the moon other than showing off to the world that you’re no longer a third world country? We did this some 55 years ago.

Better satellites, telescopes etc is great, but the ESA does not have to be a ‘space power’ in order to useful things.

  6. Let’s do European SSTO like Skylon. Reaction Engines unfortunately went bankrupt.

Also fusion-powered Solar System exploration vehicle akin to forgotten Fusion Ship II.

    Go big or go home

  7. He’s not a man, but a rock. He speaks little, rarely, and always to the point.

  8. Might not be a bad idea if Macron would concern himself with France’s real problems. Instead I often have the impression he has lost touch with the real issues..

  9. Again? Yeah am sorry but I don’t think Europe was ever a space power

  10. We need to put a European on the Moon, and do the other things. Not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Furthermore, I say that European be a Serb born and raised in Croatia. Just so future generations have something else to troll about other than Nikola Tesla. It’s a win-win for everyone.

  11. Sigh. Predictable comments.

If you had read *the article*, it’s about satellites, not landing on the fucking moon.

  12. Yes, lets build rockets with our new engineering friends from the eastern and southern hemisphere.

  13. I agree, as long as we focus on useful stuff like satellites for weather prediction or a starlink competitor. Leave expensive idiocy like sending people to mars to the other countries.

  14. We already are. The UK alone is a major satellite producer, whilst ESA has heavy lift capabilities

  15. And what he means by that is subsidise French aerospace companies. The guy is transparent

  16. Again? They never were. It’s always been Americans and Russians.

  17. I keep saying that for years. The EU needs to stop sending money to random non-European countries and invest in space exploration.

  18. Space is the next big thing after AI and Europe once again has literally nothing to show
