Trepidation for Arabs across Middle East as Israel-Iran conflict unfolds • FRANCE 24 English

drawn by the sound of sirens people gather on this rooftop in Jordan hoping to catch a glimpse of the missiles flying towards neighboring Israel We’re very happy We feel like we’re in seventh heaven We saw what Israel did to Gaza They destroyed it Jordan has formal diplomatic relations with Israel and has intercepted Iranian missiles and drones in its airspace officially due to fears they could fall on Jordanian territory In Iraq citizens are watching the news with trepidation fearful of their country being dragged into the war We hope that Iraq maintains its position and remains steadfast regarding not interfering and not getting dragged into these wars and interfering in these crisis there Those fears are shared by many across the Middle East Even as Israelian missiles and Israeli warplanes streak across their skies most countries are trying to avoid direct involvement in the confrontation On Monday the leaders of more than 20 Arab states jointly condemned Israel’s military strikes against Iran including those that have diplomatic relations with Israel and are at odds with Thrron Traditionally foes Saudi Arabia and Iran have pursued a cautious Rapro since 2023 The outlier in the region is the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen which announced Sunday had targeted Israel with several ballistic missiles in a coordinated attack with Thran Israel started this war and God willing they will be defeated God willing Iran will invade Israel by land sea and air We stand with them hand in hand Meanwhile Lebanon’s president said Monday that the country must stay out of the conflict A message to Lebanese militant group Hezbollah Long considered Iran’s most powerful ally Hezbollah has not come to Thran’s aid after being badly weakened in its latest war with Israel

As the Israel-Iran air war rages into its fifth day on Tuesday, Arabs across the Middle East are finding themselves watching on with trepidation, torn between support for Iran and fear their own countries could be sucked into the conflict.

  1. Somehow this doesnt surprise me. When the smoke clears, these same people will begrudgingly thank Israel for getting rid of the IRGC.

  2. Feel like you mean the islamic world… not arab… Arab make up a small percentage of the islamic demographics

  3. Majority of ME world peope dbt like settler colonial apprthied state project of Isreal as has had been soyrce of trouble for region during last 100 years

  4. Not so fun fact. The reason Saudi, Turkey, and other Muslim countries won't step in to help Palestinians or Iranians is because they are major financial investors in many lsraeIi corporations. For example, Jared Kushners Saudi funded Affinity Partners has bought over 30% interest in many of the largest companies in lsraeI.

  5. Saudi Arabia is on standby but will not interfere. It wouldn’t risk the destruction of its cities and economy which they have long made overdue with hard work and stable peace. The same for Dubai, it’s not worth the destruction of their countries and their glazing economies. In the end, it’s in their political and economic interest to maintain peace and order, especially since Iran has been a troublemaker since 1979.

  6. The Arab world would be fine if there was a change in government in Iran
No one actually likes the Shia theocracy, they are all just scared of them do to all of their proxy terrorists groups

  7. oh no Middle Eastern Arab states might have to make a decision because they cant pretend it will go away this time pesky Palestinians always making trouble darn Iranians always with the stirring up
