Austria did have one of Europe’s most liberal gun control regimes, but then a drop-out popped back to his old school in the city of Graz and shot 10 people dead before taking his own life in the worst school shooting in the country’s history.

The identity of the shooter has not been revealed due to stringent Austrian privacy laws, but it is understood he was a 21-year-old who had left the school without qualifications some years ago.
