June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month.
According to the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) magazine for June/July 2025, “It is a global healthcare initiative observed annually in June commemorating awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other brain disorders. Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disorder that generally affects people over the age of 65. It is the most prevalent form of Dementia.”
My wife, Carla, progressed from mild cognitive impairment to dementia with underlying Alzheimer’s from 2021 to 2024 despite trying to observe the five steps to reduce the risk of cognitive decline. The steps are adequate sleep, a balanced diet, exercise, social connection, and brain-challenging activities.
The magazine provides the following: “For more information about Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, please contact the Alzheimer’s Association at
or call the 24-hour helpline at (800) 272-3900.”
NARFE members support research and care for Alzheimer’s
and brain health diseases.
