  4. I know I’m not as smart as the very stable genius but I still was able to predict this for the farmers. I’m sure the construction and the hospitality industries are having a similar predicament.

  15. It has always been that way, I can remember as a kid back in the 60s farm workers coming in from Mexico and other countries to work in the fields.

  18. Didn’t Alabama or Georgia try this years back and had crops rot in the fields when farmers couldn’t get anyone to work?

    My family owns a farm and our labor provider uses approve migrant contracts and American citizens/permanent residents but we’re going to have trouble finding help this summer and fall. It’s not just undocumented workers who are afraid to come out but it’s American citizens who look a certain way who are afraid to come out to work. The laborer contracts are normally either in place or really close to being in place by now and they’re not. Granted, we only need five or so laborers so we’re low down the list for the labor providers. We pay what we think is fair ($35/hour plus lodging and OT) but even then, we’ve never been able to find many locals to help. Even the custom harvester crews are having trouble finding people who are not nervous to come work.

    And no, nobody in my family voted for this. We screamed for months that this was exactly what was going to happen and were told “that’ll never happen.” Well, what now, idiots?

  22. I’m sure they CAN find workers. Those workers won’t accept the same wages that the immigrants were willing to take.

    That leaves 2 options: either they won’t hire anyone causing a lot of crops to die causing a huge loss of revenue, or they can pay people a normal wage causing them to have to increase the price of selling crops accordingly, which people won’t pay, causing a huge loss of revenue.

    Glad they got what they voted for.

  23. He got what he voted for. I’m sure big farming corporations will buy the best land pennies for the dollar, and then he can apply for a job there. Don’t ask for government handouts. Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

  24. All I see is white people don’t want to work as hard as non-white people, but white people don’t want the non-white people to have the same rights, wages, or wealth as them.

    What made America truly great was we used to be willing to work our asses off to make America the best nation on Earth. Now, all we want to do is gaslight entire populations for our own laziness.

  27. Unless they are committed Marxists, these farmers should adopt the free market/capitalist approach. Raise wages and improve working conditions until they can attract and retain the workers they need. How is that so hard?
