People of Ireland who drive a 2010/11 Opel Corsa what are your opinions on the car for a first time car buyer? Any advice? Thanks 🙂

  1. 10+ year old cars are sometimes more expensive to insure than slightly newer (6-8 year old) cars. Certainly used to be.

So I’d suggest getting a few insurance quotes on a 2010/11 Corsa and comparing them to those on a newer car and look at the total cost (car plus insurance) before making a decision to buy.

  2. The wee petrol and diesel engines are grand, parts are cheap and there’s plenty in the scrappy for cheaper parts again. Most of them are relatively frugal. I wouldn’t expect much excitement and the dashes can be basic but you could do worse. Personally though, for value, I think a fiesta is better in this bracket. Well wear (if you do buy)

  3. Indestructible…

Went on a dozen drunken rampages through the cities in one, easy to park doesn’t ding too easily when hitting the homeless and can fit a few kegs and cases of resupply in the boot – which you can access while driving

  4. I had a Corsa years ago. I loved it, could turn it on a beer mat, it was quick, I’d fit my fishing rods, surfboard, my bike, whatever, depending on how I arranged the seats. Easy enough on petrol too.

  5. As someone else suggested, get insurance quotes first due to the age of the car. Aside from that, a Corsa isn’t a bad first car at all.

  6. They don’t like going past 55mph. Watch the needle drop in real time on the motorway. Reliable tho and great for parking. Cheap for parts. Surprisingly roomy in the front for its size. Check for rust on door latches and underneath. Usually a prob for nct eventually.

  7. currently driving a 2010 corsa. i drove 2 older corsa models before and i swore i wouldnt buy another due to a few annoying problems i had with them, but when i had a look around the corsa it was the only one that had the few things i was interested in (electric windows, multi function steering wheel, bluetooth stereo), while still being cheap enough and not too small (im on the tall side so any of those tiny cars just feel too claustrophobic for my liking). i havnt had any problems with it since i bought it 5 years ago anyway.

the insurance on it costs 410 a year but i got my driving licence a long time ago now so i dont know what it would be for a first timer

  8. As with all used cars at ten plus years a lot will depend on the ownership, accident and service history, mileage, etc. At that age these factors are arguably more important than just the make and model.

Check the NCT history. If you are seeing the car where it is normally parked is there staining on the ground underneath that would indicate an oil leak, etc. Check under the hood for splashed oil or fluids. While there checking fluid levels will give you an idea of the owner’s maintenance habits. VIN check should tell you if it was ever written off. As for mileage around 15-20k km/year is generally good. Check brakes and tyres to see if you’ll have to replace those which will add significant cost to your purchase.

Generally speaking though this is a pretty good make and model for a first car for many of the reasons that others have mentioned.

  9. They’re liable to subframe erosion, engines aren’t known to he reliable, and at the end of the day… it’s an Opel.

    I’d rather a 2010 Hyundai i30 or Kia Ceed.

  10. There are sharks hidden in that car. You think I’m crazy, oh, they all thought I was crazy. But then they started finding the skarks in those cars.

  11. Do not get one.
    My professional opinion.
Buy a fiesta or Japanese equivalent.
Opel engines are dogshit and they are awful to drive

  12. Last car I has was a Corsa, 15/16 model. Great for short trips , shite on the motorway. Once you go past 90km/h you don’t have a 6th gear or cruise control, so engine just revs and revs.

  13. If you just want to get around. A to B no frills and decent enough then they’re grand. Won’t set the world alight nor will you turn any heads but decent wee runabout. Lots of parts. Oil seal for drive shaft can be a bit tricky so check that out thoroughly. Ok for 1st car and to get some Insurance under your belt.
