Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently allegedly attempted a terrorist attack on Israeli citizens in Cyprus. Israeli officials have praised Cypriot intelligence for working with Israeli security to thwart the plot, highlighting an escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict into new geographical areas.

This alleged incident underscores the ongoing shadow war between Israel and Iran, which often unfolds in third countries. Iranian proxies and affiliated groups are known to target Israelis abroad. Cyprus’s proximity to West Asia and its significant Israeli tourist presence make it a strategic target.
The foiled plot demonstrates that the Israel-Iran conflict can extend into neighbouring regions, intelligence sources say. Iran typically denies direct involvement in such incidents, attributing them to independent resistance forces.
