Prince Harry is reportedly considering extending a huge olive branch to the Royal Family. The royal, who has been estranged from the royals for some time, has previously opened up about being no longer on speaking terms with his father.
Despite this, Harry has spoken about his wish for reconciliation, with hopes now circulating that he wants his father to attend the Invictus Games in 2027. Royal expert Ingrid Seward said: “The King might attend to show support for the Armed Forces and congratulate Harry on the most significant success in his life.
“The only reason the King is wary of associating with his son is that he no longer trusts him not to repeat their private conversations as he has done in the past. This goes for all the working members of the family.”
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, royal commentator Katie Nicholl also added: “The King absolutely wants a relationship with his youngest son and with his grandchildren.
“He has an incredible capacity for forgiveness, and he wants to be magnanimous in all of this, and therefore, there’s certainly a possibility that the King might consider attending Invictus.”
There is, however, one major clash that could impact the King’s attendance. The Games are set to open at Birmingham’s NEC on July 12, 2027, and will conclude on July 17, which is the day that Queen Camilla will turn 80.
It also remains to be seen whether Harry, 40, would risk bringing Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet, who would be 6 and 8 at the time of the event in July 2027, to the UK for the event.
This comes after Harry previously insisted he could not do so unless the family were offered “full police protection”.
In July 2024, it was announced that Birmingham had won its bid to host the Games, but the specific dates still needed to be confirmed.
Earlier this month, the official Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 social media account posted: “SAVE THE DATES! The Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 are coming: 10th–17th July. Opening Ceremony: 10th July. Closing Ceremony: 17th July.”
