Grant Shapps says he does not support ‘a vast increase’ in onshore wind farms ahead of the energy security strategy reveal next week

  1. When my cat starts to make a ‘meooowwrrooowwweeoooww’ around tea time, that cacophony contains more common sense and wisdom than anything this shredded wheat haired conman has ever uttered.

  2. So what alternative does he support? My guess is it will be North Sea oil and gas, along with fracking and biomass, rather than a renewable alternative. We can kick the can down the road if we want, however climate change will just continue to increase in severity in the meantime. Young people should pay very close attention to energy polices, and not just because personal bills are going to keep going up. We are going to be left with a plundered wasteland at this point.

  3. And how else are we meant to increase energy supply?

Probs wouldn’t support nuclear and even if they did support it, it would take too long to solve our near future issues.

Solar is viable like an 8th of the year in the UK, the rest of the time it’s residual energy.

The UK has no natural geothermal vents it can use, and creating some would vastly outweigh any energy received.

Offshore wind is vastly more expensive and takes longer.

And experimental energy like wave/tidal isn’t viable yet.

So what, carry on using fossil fuels? The same ones damaging our climate? The same ones causing health issues? The same ones that even after commissioning a powerplant, we are at the financial whim of fossil fuel providers making the energy vs cost just as, if not more, volatile as renewables.

  4. As if his opinion is that windfarms are an eyesore. Then also says expect more nuclear power plants… anyone else think this guy has been paid off?

  5. Well Grunt Shapps can feck off because he’s a know nothing idiot. We’ve got to snap out of climate complacency you twonk. “The economy” and “market forces” have to change. The days of big oil money have gone. Leave it in the ground.
New nuclear will take a decade or more, but we can whip up wind turbines starting tomorrow.
Once we have compulsory purchased the nimbies and the landowners of course. It is these Tory donors who are blocking on shore wind.

  6. We are here to be screwed over by those at the top . Keeps the costs up keeps the masses heads down working and struggling to survive so we don’t see what they are up too
