Hello everyone.

I was wondering would it be possible to buy a dog from Latvia. Looking for a samoyed puppy ([https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/samoyed/](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/samoyed/)).

Any good websites for puppies?

I live in Finland currently, and there are no puppies of that breed here. That is why Im looking abroad.

Also how easy is it to buy a dog in Latvia? Anything special to consider?

Thank you

  1. Movement of pets within EU: [https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/movement-pets/eu-legislation/movements-within-union_en](https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/movement-pets/eu-legislation/movements-within-union_en)

Basically you can travel with a 4 months old puppy that has had all rabies shots. Practically you also can ask your vet in Finland to give you a form that the breeder fills in and their vet in Latvia signs guaranteeing that puppy had no exposure to rabies. Then you can import 2 months old puppy (you will have to register it with the same vet who gave you the form, at least for beginning). Or at least some EU countries have this system. Anyway do not risk travelling without proper documents, your puppy will be the one paying the price.

[http://www.kenventaki.lv/](http://www.kenventaki.lv/) is good breeder of samoyeds in Latvia. (No, I don’t own it nor friends with them, not my breed)

  2. I know just 2 breeders in Latvia. Check on facebook – Baltie suni samoyed kennel, the other lives in Daugavpils – Julija Golubeva. I hard that waiting is long – a year or so – but few weeks ago Julija had a 2 female puppies up for sale.

  3. I don’t know anything about the bread, other than that it exists in Latvia, but Latvian cynology federation http://www.dogs.lv/en/ is the central organization for dog breeding, they list clubs for specific breeds that are aligned with them, you could try contacting them or relevant clubs for help.
