Over 200 doctors will be trained to use telemedicine and new technologies in their daily practice as part of the Future HealthTech project, which aims to integrate modern technologies into medical training and practice in the Republic of Moldova.
The project, funded by the World Health Organization, is intended for the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and is being implemented in partnership with the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova. It targets three strategic areas: mental health, urology, and interventional cardiology.
The head of the Department of Development and Technological Innovations in Health at USMF ” Nicolae Testemitanu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Natalia Ciobanu, told IPN that the group to be trained consists of resident doctors, master’s students, doctoral students, university staff, and specialists from the university’s relevant departments, as well as from partner medical institutions across the country. They will participate in three summer schools in July: FutureCardio, FutureMentalHealth, and FutureUro, having been selected through a public call.
“Access to these modern tools and technologies will strengthen their ability to respond to the challenges of contemporary medicine and actively contribute to the modernization of the healthcare system in the Republic of Moldova,” said Natalia Ciobanu.
Participation in the training is free of charge for trainees, with organizational costs covered by the World Health Organization’s Moldova Office.
“The project activities are designed to stimulate a culture of innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and openness to technological solutions applicable in medical practice,” added the head of department at Nicolae Testemitanu University.
The implementation of telemedicine in the Republic of Moldova is part of a broader process of digital transformation of the healthcare system, which is still in its early stages. Functional digitization requires a coordinated effort, including investments in infrastructure, continuous training, and legislative harmonization.
Natalia Ciobanu emphasizes that Nicolae Testemițanu University represents the academic and scientific core capable of providing the necessary training for sustainable and efficient digitization of the medical system. The use of technology in medicine means faster and fairer access to quality services, more accurate diagnosis, and safer and better-guided medical interventions, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence and other digital tools.
