Tories fear poll disaster over high taxes | Cost of living crisis

  1. If I were in Sunak’s shoes, I would have gone on a major public spending spree to mitigate this crisis. This would have included:

    * Building shitloads of council homes that are rented out through local councils.
    * Offering free/subsidised insultation for millions of homes.
    * Offering subsidies for households to install solar panels on their homes.
    * Investing in renewable energy to mitigate the threat of Russia cutting off their gas distribution.
    * Heavy investment in local rail infrastructure, with the aim to give eight major UK cities outside of London their own underground/overground rail metro by 2032.

  2. Anyone else completely disillusioned with Politics?

Like our country runs on an election cycle for planning. They don’t actually care about us at all, but only about doing things to stay in power

Cost of living crisis literally killing vulnerable people? Lol who cares

Cost of living crisis impacting polling? Woah now better sort it out

  3. Boris Johnson held a lavish champagne reception for donors the day before all our bills and taxes rocketed through the roof.

They aren’t scared of anything – probably because they are going to use their 80 seat majority to “fix” the next election

  4. I desperately want the Tories to suddenly become the fourth largest party at the next general election behind Labour, greens and LibDem. It would be so satisfying if every cunt stopped voting for these disgusting people.

  5. This government has shown it has no answers for any of the problems affecting our country.

Sewage in the waterways, Cost of living crisis, fuel poverty, wholesale sacking of British staff by P&O.

Nothing is getting better under the Torys, NOTHING!

  6. Fear high tax poll harm but are stripping disabled people of heating help so that might help them make others feel smug and offset their own pain enough to keep voting Tory. Tory voters are willing to suffer if it makes someone else suffer.

  7. Actions have consequences.

Don’t forget they also cut the money to local councils and told them to put up council taxes rates (and made it legally possible for them to do it) as well as this.

  8. Again, they’ll all promise the world when they need our vote, only to go back on the majority of said promises.

  9. Tories make people poor then complain poor people don’t like that and won’t vote for them?

Id say colour me surprised but tories don’t like colour

  10. Really?
They are in power and creating the conditions for millions of people to fall into poverty and debt… And they’re worried about the polls… Fuck ’em.

  11. They could always go for some nationalists crisis to gain votes…last time wasn’t it some made up fishing crisis around jersey with the French ? Couple that to a few ww2 movies on the TV and a couple of “how we won the Falklands war” TV programs and the great unthinking UK public should vote their local uncaring and never seen Tory MP back into power for more tax and bill rises

  12. Trouble is, it doesn’t seem how badly they fuck the country and its people, the idiots will still vote for them in their droves.

  13. They rely on the same stupid self serving wank stains to vote for them. Like the I have always voted Tory idiot moaning that government did not give small business owners like him enough help during the pandemic- that’s cos they are Tory. Cue some pointless war with the EU, loads
of stories about immigrants pushing up prices from Murdoch and plucky stories from some mad old biddies saying we never had central heating in 1959 so we can live with this. We beat Hitler with no heating you know! Fucking millennials

  14. Did this come out of nowhere for them?

The people they got to vote for them because they sweet-talked them over Brexit and stuff are the ones who are going to be hit hardest, and all they can do is hey here’s £200 to cover a bit of it to be paid back…

  15. They could try a windfall tax on energy companies, closing loopholes that tech giants exploit or make LLPs and shell companies illegal. Those would all hurt their friends, families and foreign donors though, so I suppose that takes all those ideas off the table.

  16. Overheard in a local shop a sweet old lady complaining that she couldn’t afford to put her heating on because of that nasty Putin man.

Got a horrible feeling the Tories are going to get away with it again….

  17. I’m probably in the bracket they want to attract, high earner (50k+), and I got my annual bonus at the end of the tax year. So I’m hardly on the breadline, but between Student Loan, Pension and the sundry of taxes, 51% didn’t even reach my bank thanks to the PAYE system nicking it before I even get paid it. I wouldn’t mind it, if I knew the money was going to help those in need rather than prop up a variety of the conservative mates selling inflated PPE and god knows what else.

Countries gone to the fucking wall.
