Raise social welfare rates to shield struggling households from spiralling inflation, experts say

  1. I do wonder if an expert has ever given the answer, “reduce social welfare”.

Because this seem like the answer “campaigners and economists” give no matter what the question is.

  2. I think they should pay more out for social welfare recipients – but I want them to cut the amount out of current expenditure and tell us where they cut it from.

  3. Yep. Most of the professionals I know got 10-20% pay rises last year so we’re already covered for inflation. It’s not fair to leave people on social welfare and minimum wage behind.

  4. Id be fine with raising social welfare, if we did away with all the ridiculous allowances.

Pet allowance? TV license allowance? etc.

    Get away ta fuck

  5. I mean if they’re considering giving artists €325 for nothing, the least the government should do is extend that same amount to those of us on long-term SW payments.

  6. Economists should come with a warning like the warnings on packets of cigarettes. Solution to inflation? Create more debt and give out more money…

  7. One more tax rise and I will be needing social welfare myself… Inflation is killing me as well.

  8. Then the working people won’t work. The raise should be for everyone.

A perfect arguement for universal basic income

  9. Do it anyway for other reasons, but it probably won’t help with inflation. Won’t work.

We need to eat the rich. And I mean the PROPER rich. The 0.1% Not literally, but taxes, fees, etc. That we can live in a society which has so much disgusting excess at the top but people struggling to survive at the bottom is a massive injustice. The people at the bottom might not be literally dying on the streets of starvation or anything en masse as they may have done in years gone by, but the gap between the poor and the wealthiest has never been greater. And it’s the wealthy that need to pick up the slack.

That won’t necessarily fix inflation either but it will enable the poorest to cope with it. Just printing money will not help anyone long term.
