This past week was a big one for fans of the British royal family. With the return of the Royal Ascot, we got Queen Camilla, her surprising confession and her $2.5 million brooch. We also saw King Charles, Prince William and a host of other royals.
Though Kate Middleton was unable to attend, we did get a surprise and noteworthy appearance from her mother, Carole Middleton—and she looked fabulous.

This past Wednesday, Carole was spotted at the Ascot, accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Alizée Thevenet. Middleton wore a gorgeous yellow lace dress from ME+EM and a large hat fitting for the grand occasion.
And even though her daughter Catherine couldn’t be there, Carole still spent plenty of time chatting with her in-laws. She was seen smiling with Prince William and laughing with King Charles.

This year’s event kicked off on June 17, bringing all the usual fanfare: horse racing, fancy hats and deep royal roots dating back centuries. It’s one of the crown jewels of the British summer social season.
Kensington Palace hasn’t commented on the reason why Catherine missed the event, but outlets including The Times and Vanity Fair confirmed the Princess of Wales’s absence was a late decision. In all likelihood, her cancelation has to do with not overexerting herself in light of her health issues (and the current heat wave in Britain).
I’m just glad to see her mom was still able to make it out!
