I wonder how they drank their coffee, was it a luxurious treat?
Where did it come from. Watered down or pretty much like ground coffee brew today?
Filtered through or just a large ‘brew’, cowboy style.
So many questions.
Now that spot is used by the local bowsies to get wrecked
Why did they plaster and paint the red brick houses?
They knew how to build sturdy houses back then. I love pictures like this.
It’s not a village. It’s part of Waterford city
Think you got these backwards. All those hipsters drinking their coffee is the tip off
the bull post is a relic of the barbarity of bull baiting. Thankfully it was banned in 1798. It’s neat to have such a relic though.
Much more character back then
Not much change in 112 years.
My grandmother’s sister lived in one of those houses. I think the one with the red door.
It’s mad how old the average random town building like this is in Ireland. They don’t even look that old.
Prefer the more rustic atmosphere.
Dressed in their finest and all.
Ballybricken, top of the town boy!
In fact pretty much every village had its weekly mart up to the 1970’s and even later. The Foot & Mouth outbreak in 2001 killed off the last few remaining.
I remember my Granny saying they used to walk the cows into town for the fair / mart. She was terrified when she was walking to school and would have to duck in behind peoples gates to avoid them.
I prefer the 1910 version
Does that shop on the left look more “slanty” now
It’s lovely how they kept the buildings’ exteriors. Their probably several timely replaced but still look the same.
