[OC] Finance and Insurance Sector in the US

  1. Delaware and New York are obvious.

    I’m assuming others are driving by Mutual of Omaha in Nebraska, Nationwide Insurance and Fifth Third Bank in Ohio.

    What banks or insurance companies are HQ’d in South Dakota? Or is this more reflective of how profitable these industries are and how that shows up in a state with a relatively small GDP?

  2. I can see my workplace from here. Like literally it’s the only one in that purple county.

  3. I work in the industry. What you have in the mid west is a map of states with favorable insurance tax laws, so large insurers domicile there (IL has State farm, Iowa/NE has a lot of Life ins, UHC is in MN)

  4. I bet the UK would have a similar percentage of financial services to GDP.

    I find it a bit depressing, seems somewhat shabby compared to the heady days of heavy industry.
