German minister: No upper limit on Ukrainian refugees

  1. Germany is roughly 18,5% of EU’s population.

    (~83M : ~450M EU population)

Assuming *only* EU countries takes in the Ukranian refugees, which are close to 5M at the moment, that’s ~925K.

925000 : 83000000 ~ 1,1% of the German population would be Ukranian refugees.

It is perfectly reasonable for a country’s citizens to expect an even distribution of refugees in relation to the population’s size of the EU as a whole.

We should all help out our fellow Europeans, but no single country should be expected to bear an unreasonable proportion of the burden.

  2. It is a shame that British people can’t offer assistance through European channels or unhcr by passing the Russian type filtration camp in Lille the government has set up.

  3. Good. This is exactly the kind of policy I’m actively holding up as an example to push my government to do more for Ukrainian refugees.
