Ah shit, I smell another book deal. And I hate myself for it but it could be called ‘*McCanned – the end of the search’*
It’s the McCann’s two other children I feel sorry for. The refusal of their parents to accept the death of Madeleine probably blighted their childhoods.
Haven’t the German police claimed to have solved it and are collecting evidence?
Probably not going to have much luck if they’re still looking for a toddler.
I’m surprised it has only been 11 years, it feels like longer
So this is why Netflix are now showing The Missing…
Those two cretins know exactly what happened, and they’re going to have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
Sadly, they’re such despicable people, they probably don’t care….
If they were working class people, they would have been locked up. Instead, they deflected from their criminally negligent behaviour by giving the world a sob story to indulge in. The pair of them can fuck right off.
The Met officers must be gutted about losing their annual all-expenses-paid holidays to Portugal. I’m surprised they haven’t gotten their union involved.
What a clusterfuck this was all round. First the Portuguese police make an absolute mess of the initial investigation, either do fuck all work or chasing non-existent leads that could’ve been ruled out with basic police work. It’s on par with the Yorkshire Ripper in terms of how inept the police action was.
The German guy that admitted to it is potentially being charged at some point this year (from the wiki):
German investigations in 2020
In June 2020, the public prosecutor of the German city of Braunschweig ordered an inquiry regarding a possible involvement of Christian Brückner, a 43-year-old man believed to have been living in a borrowed VW camper van in the Algarve region at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. Brückner’s British girlfriend at the time reported that the night before the abduction, the suspect told her: “I have a job to do in Praia da Luz tomorrow. It’s a horrible job but it’s something I have to do and it will change my life. You won’t be seeing me for a while.”[276] The suspect’s car, a Jaguar XJR6, was registered to a new owner the day after Madeleine disappeared.[6] Hans Christian Wolters, from the public prosecutor’s office, stated that they were starting proceedings under the presumption that Madeleine is dead, due to Brückner’s criminal record.[6] Brückner has been convicted of unrelated offences of sexual abuse of children and drug trafficking, and as of June 2020 was incarcerated in Germany.[277][15]
Brückner was listed as serving seven years in jail for the rape of a 72-year-old pensioner in the Algarve region.[278] On 3 June, the Criminal Police Office made a public appeal for information relating to the McCann case on Aktenzeichen XY… ungelöst, a crime programme broadcast by the public television station ZDF.[279] German police stated that they received useful information in 2013 after the case was first featured on Aktenzeichen XY, but that it took years to find substantial evidence for prosecution, and that they still need more information.[280] The prosecutors asked the public for information about Brückner’s phone number and a number that dialed him on the day of the disappearance, with which Brückner’s number had a 30-minute connection.[6][281]
On 27 July, German police began searching an allotment in Hanover in connection with the investigation.[282] In October 2021, the Mirror reported that Wolters had become convinced that Brückner abducted and murdered Madeleine.[16]
Until this came out I was more or less of the opinion that somehow Madeline accidentally died through the course of the evening. The parents panicked and staged a kidnapping to make it look like something else. Note that the parents were NEVER charged with anything to do with Madeline’s disappearance, they were tried and convicted in a court of public opinion (myself included). There’s just too much weird shit that doesn’t add up.
I’ve said it many times before, and I’ll say it again…. I really hope the theory of that little girl being drugged up with sleeping pills by her parents and dying peacefully in her sleep is true.
If it isn’t…. well the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.
She would be celebrating her 19th birthday next month if she was still alive. Sadly will never be found, too much time has past now, so much that the search wouldn’t even be for a child anymore it would be for a young woman.
They should have got a load of 1970s BBC presenters on the case. They could easily find a missing child.
You lot climbing over yourselves to make the edgiest joke about a dead child is insane
And the parents have still never been charged with child neglect… Shows what being rich can do for you…
I’m of firm belief that they should have been charged for neglect.
And it only took them 11 years and fuck knows how much money?
Oh, and to everyone else whose loved one has gone missing in the meantime whose case was closed after a month, fuck you.
How these two have not been locked up amazes me. Daughter goes missing they decide to go play tennis…… guilty as sin
Sort by controversial to find the armchair detectives.
Apparently the Maddie Fund still has about 750 thousand which the McCanns said they would use to pay for private detectives if the police case closed. So I guess they’ll do that now. I can’t help but think it was a time sensitive thing and probably should have had all the money thrown at it early on, but I’m not a middle class GP so what do I know?
(Aside from things like not leaving small children alone in an unlocked ground level room next to a road and out of sight and coming back to check on them at regular timed intervals so that anyone watching would know when the coast was clear, little things like that).
I’m still not sure how these two weren’t banged up for neglect. Leaving your young children alone in an apartment while you go out to get pissed up at the local restaurant? I wouldn’t dare.
I have children roughly around the age that Maddy was when she went missing, and I wouldn’t leave them in the house alone for 5 minutes, let alone leave them while I go out drinking.
Good, should have been closed years ago. All those years, spending millions and barely anything to show for it when other cases deserved just as much funding and attention. But at least detectives got a nice few holidays out of it.
how many children have gone missing since then? I was a kid when this first happened so i missed most of the media storm but why does anyone honestly still give a fuck about this one specific case???
I don’t think the McCann’s had anything to do with her disappearance. They were fucking negligent and they will pay the price for that evening for the rest of their lives. I begrudge the amount of money thrown at this case when there must be so many others.
I think many people have such complicated feelings about this case. I know I do.
Millions of pounds of taxpayer money spent on looking for one missing child when there are thousands of children/people who go missing every year who don’t get as much attention.
As for the parents…I think their race/socio-economic status played into how much coverage the case received and still does.
But they and their friends were utterly negligent in leaving infant children alone, unattended, at night, in a foreign country whilst they and their friends had a meal. It’s utterly incomprensible how they could make such a poor choice which sadly had this outcome. Of course, the perpetrator is the most at fault but I think they put their children in the position of something like this happening.
They were in a large group. Why not take turns babysitting the kids. Why not use th babysitting services at the hotel? Why not eat earlier with the kids? So many options open to them. And if you look at the layout of the hotel complex, it’s not the equivalent of eating in your garden while the kids are inside. It’s the equivalent of eating around the corner of your house! I
If that had been a poor, working class, non-white couple with menial jobs, there would have been more negative attention on their negligence and less positive press imo.
