A record-breaking heat wave is sending natural gas demand surging across the central and northeast United States as cooling demand could set new all-time highs for gas power burns in some areas of the East.

Lower 48 temperatures are forecast to approach or exceed 100 degrees as a heat dome envelops more than three dozen states from the Plains to New England through midweek, according to AccuWeather.
The unusually hot temperatures for June through at least Tuesday “would mark the first time for some in many decades since triple-digit heat has been experienced in June,” AccuWeather meteorologist Bill Deger said.
