The group wants compensation for about 3.6 million 1950s-born women who had expected to get their state pension at 60, but had to wait another five or six years.
Campaign chair Angela Madden told *The i Paper* she remains “very confident” they can win the lawsuit and push Labour ministers into coming up with a payment scheme.
# How is Waspi paying for the legal case?
The Waspi campaign is crowdfunding to pay for its legal fees. The group has raised just over £220,000 so far for its judicial review action – but is aiming for another £50,000.
The cost-capping order has helped limit Waspi’s legal liability, having to pay the Government no more than £60,000 if it loses.
But the group still wants supporters to help reach its £270,000 target to pay for bills to their lawyers Bindmans LLP.
The Government had initially refused to any capping in legal costs, but it changed their mind and conceded on the issue ahead of a scheduled court hearing on Monday.
Madden said she was “relieved” at the concession, saying unlimited legal costs would have put the Waspi group at risk of bankruptcy.
She added: “Without this safeguard, we faced a real risk of financial ruin – of effectively being silenced by the threat of Government legal bills running into hundreds of thousands of pounds.”
Madden said people had been “very generous” in raising legal funds, adding: “It’s not just Waspi women – it’s supporters in the wider public who care about this injustice.”
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) had been investigating the way the Government handled the roll-out of the hiked state pension age for women.
What a bunch of losers.
There were properly informed that the state pension age was changing. So that statement is incorrect. It was brought forward by a year/ w years by David Cameron but obviously still with many years notice.
I bet if the government had told them they could retire even younger, they all would have got the first letter and there would have been zero confusion to it’s meaning.
I mean surely these ladies would have protested that too because it isn’t what they wanted? Ah no, never that direction.
I love how that picture say “injustice” now and not “inequality”, was the inequality was removed to ensure man and women now have the same state pension age.
The real reason Waspi women are bitter and angry is they’re the first generation of women in history where the long march of equality hasn’t been an entirely 1 sided benefit, they have to now make a sacrifice and they’re seething beyond belief. That’s the real reason….
Waspi women make me simultaneously cringe and enraged. How? How is this a campaign?
The nerve
They can do one
” we want equality!! Wait, not like that!”
The entitlement of these people. The country’s in a shambles and they think this is the issue to die on a hill over? After living through times of such prosperity. Mental.
Sorry, so the Women Against State Pension Inequality are mad that the pension age has become more equal, and because of that they want £10k each… And in taking the government to court, the government even capped court costs… and the money being raised is from a go fund me…
Oh and their 1950’s born…
The fucking irony, have they considered cutting back on Netflix to afford the costs?

Yes. The Waspi group has enjoyed some legal success in the past.
