The cinema industry in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from clearer and more organized support. With this aim, the Government has approved amendments to the Cinema Law, which provide for the creation of a Cinema Fund and new measures for promoting domestic productions, reports IPN.

According to the authorities, financial support will be provided for film projects, for the development and promotion of the film industry, the preservation and enhancement of the national cinematic heritage.

Another change refers to the strengthening of local production. The volume of films and other audiovisual works made in Moldova could increase by at least 30% in the next three years, authorities estimate.

At the same time, the amended law aims to stimulate co-productions and increase the international visibility of Moldovan films. Annually, at least ten productions will be selected for international festivals.

To promote the Romanian language and cultural identity, cinema administrators will have the obligation to ensure a quota of films in Romanian.

The project also envisages the development of film education in schools and communities, as well as the continuous training of professionals in the field. The “Odeon” Cinema will be transferred to the National Center of Cinematography and will be transformed into a public center for film projection and education.
