  1. > Two colonels assigned to protect Zelensky were working for the Russian FSB and plotting to assassinate him, the head of Ukraine’s security service, Lt. Gen. Vasyl Malyuk, told journalists.
    >
    > He also described assassination plans in Rzeszow, Poland, at the airport.
    >
    > Some information from both incidents was disclosed last year, including the one by the colonels.

    > “Last year, we carried out a major operation,” Malyuk said. “One of those detained was the head of a department within UDO — someone whose role is to protect this country’s leadership. Alongside him, another colonel was arrested. Both were working for Russia’s FSB, specifically its Fifth Service.”

I give it a 50/50 shot of this being true at best. I’m sure if Russia could regime change Ukraine they’d do it, but until they can reliably pull that off and get a pro-Russian candidate in there they don’t want Zelensky gone, he’s a gift with his lack of military sense running the show.

Zelensky has a history of accusing people of being traitors when they question him, especially if he doesn’t have any corruption accusations to arrest them for, so it’s a decent possibility that these guys just lost faith in him, like he purged a bunch of his advisors early in the war for being “traitors” when they contradicted his plans to fight to the death.

  2. If Russia wanted Zelensky or any of the European leaders dead while they have been on their visit to Ukraine, they could have diverted any one of those thousands, at this point, cruise or hypersonic missiles from it’s trajectory to yet another hospital or kindergarten (apparently that’s the only thing that Russians are targeting) for the task. Or heck, dropped a tactical nuke on his head if it’s such a big deal.

But somehow he’s still alive; and touring both abroad as well as within Ukraine itself, including sometimes the front lines; in broad daylight – and not spending his days holed up in a bunker two kilometers beneath the surface. And apparently all those European leaders have absolutely zero fear being both in Ukraine and in close proximity to Zelensky what seems like a couple of days every single week.

There are dozens of ways to get the job done. He’s alive because there just isn’t a need for it. Zelensky’s the biggest gift Russia could have ever asked for. It takes real talent to accomplish so little with so much.

This whole article exists just to garner sympathy and bring some attention back to Ukraine, when most of of the world’s attention have shifted to the Middle East.

  3. So let me get this straight – you have a couple of soldiers right next to the target, and for some reason they aren’t able to kill him? What, did they need him to bend over or something? And this is being disclosed now, long after the fact, when the worlds’ attention is focused on Iran rather than Ukraine? Yeah I’m calling bs.

I’m not even sure what this would accomplish for Russia, it doesn’t change the situation on the ground. But I can imagine how getting rid of uncooperative colonels would be beneficial for Zelensky.
