Gardai to begin use of body worn cameras over the next year

  1. I thought some civil groups were up in arms about these cameras being used? Normally the gardai would be objecting but they’ve mostly supported them being used previously.

  2. In typical Irish fashion the contract will be awarded to someone with links to the government. They will cost 5 times as much as any other camera in use and will be scrapped after 6 months cause they don’t work.

  3. About fucking time, though:

    > Gardaí will have the choice whether to turn recording on or not.

This means half of them will just remain “off”.

  4. I can’t wait for all of the video footage they will have of the station and not responding to assaults in my area

  5. Personally I think will be a major increase in smaller crimes being brought to court/fines. Gardaí won’t be able to use their own discretion any more. There’ll be no more “cop on and go on away home” it will all have to be documented if it’s recorded.

  6. Looking forward to all the copaganda to turn us against each other and the footage never being used to hold them to account.

I also expect them to be used to record protestors and freeze their bank accounts Canada style.
