The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in 2025 after two years in Septmeber. This time it will take place in the T20 format, and will act as a preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to happen in February-March. However, the tensions between India and Pakistan post the Pahalgam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor, have severely affected cricketing relations. There were reports that India is likely to pull out of the Asia Cup as well, as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is headed by Pakistan interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi. However, a promo during the India vs England match has left fans confused.
A promo appeared during the official TV broadcast of the India vs England 1st Test Day 5, which showed that the Asia Cup will be held. However, the promo showed the faces of Suryakumar Yadav, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka and Bangladesh captain Najmul Hassan Shanto. The face of any Pakistan player was not showed in the promo, even though the Men in Green are one of the key teams of the tournament.

This promo has left fans confused. Many are wondering if the Asia Cup will be a tri-series featuring India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Some were even confused as to whether Pakistan were ousted from the tournament as well.

Pakistan Might Play Tri-Series Vs Afghanistan, UAE

According to a report in tribune.com.pk, the PCB is planning a tri-series with Afghanistan and UAE to get ready for the Asian championship..

“With the Asia Cup now unlikely to be held in India as originally planned in September due to the simmering relations between Pakistan and India, the PCB is working on another tri-series proposal,” a PCB source said.

“The idea is that if the Asia Cup is moved to the UAE then Pakistan will play a tri-series with Afghanistan and the UAE in Dubai in August replacing the Afghanistan tour to Pakistan,” the source added.
