Slovenia has finally joined the many countries, such as the Philippines, that now offer visas for digital nomads. People will be able to apply starting from November 21, 2025, and the visa will be valid for one year.

At the end of the 12 months, renewing your visa will, unfortunately, be impossible. On the positive side, digital nomads will be able to leave the country for six months and then reapply. The new visa will be open to all non-EU/EEA nationals working remotely. However, several criteria must be met.

How To Apply For A Slovenia Digital Nomad Visa

Everyone interested in living in Slovenia for a year as a digital nomad must meet specific criteria regarding employment and income. Here is a summary of the requirements regarding the former.

Work criteria to apply for Slovenia digital nomad visa

Work for a company based outside Slovenia

Have a contract as a freelancer

Be self-employed, providing services to clients outside of Slovenia

Be a contractor for a foreign business

If you fall under any of the categories above, you’ll be able to apply. People will also need to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds and a stable income to support themselves during their stay. Applicants will be asked to provide one of the following to prove this:

Recent payslips

Employment contracts or freelance agreements

Bank statements proving regular income

People can apply online or in person while visiting Slovenia. When abroad, applicants will be able to submit all the necessary documents via a Slovenia consulate or embassy. Those already in Slovenia can apply at a local administrative unit.

Relatives of the person applying for the visa will also be able to reside in the country under the same permit. However, they will also have to follow the same restrictions.

Restrictions

Unfortunately, some restrictions apply. Applicants have to ensure they aren’t and won’t be employed by a Slovenian company for the duration of their stay. Freelancers won’t be allowed to sell their services within the country, and, in general, people need to refrain from any income from Slovenia-based sources. Failure to do so may result in visa cancellation and future restrictions on entry into the country.

Slovenia can be a great destination for digital nomads. The country is very safe, and prices can be pretty affordable, especially when compared to its neighbors, such as Italy and Austria. Yet, it’s essential to note that prices can vary significantly based on location.

The capital, Ljubljana, now has several coworking spaces, one of the signs that the digital nomad community within the country is slowly growing. Some of the biggest cities in the country where digital nomads may consider relocating include Maribor, Celje, Kranj, and Koper.

Many people in the country speak English, and you will find unspoiled nature and gorgeous architecture. For instance, Triglav National Park is renowned for its stunning mountains, and Slovenia is also home to a small coastline on the Adriatic Sea.

While not as popular as Italy, France, or Spain, Slovenia can be the perfect solution for those on a budget looking for a charming country with a strong European vibe, free from the crowds of tourists.
