I hope Mike Lee is pounding sand right now
Guess even politicians gotta listen when the people actually pay attention.
>Among the dirt washed away in this so-called “Byrd bath” was a provision authored by Lee that would have put for sale up to 3.3 million acres of public land in 11 Western states, including Lee’s state of Utah. The plan received criticism from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and from hunters, fishers, and conservation groups concerned that it would impact treasured natural sites in the American West.
>While Lee claimed the land could be used to address the need for affordable housing, critical observers saw the proposal as merely an effort to pay for tax breaks under Trump. And, under the plan, there would have been “no significant guardrails to prevent valued public lands from being sold for trophy homes, pricey vacation spots, exclusive golf communities, or other developments,” according to the Center for American Progress.
Thankfully the Byrd rule exists because Republicans plan to gut millions of acres of land in national parks and conservatories. But this bill shouldn’t be allowed to be passed with a simple majority.
That’s a relief. Now if they could just give the rest of the BBB a huge enema!
taco
Until next time. This should never have been considered – ever.
Excellent, large swaths of the West Coast forest were on the chopping block. This is good to hear.
Okay but what about the dropping of the Roadless Rule yesterday? Obviously this is still a win but let’s not forget they just opened up 58 million acres of forest land to logging.
So they can’t sell the fucking country yet?
They will try again, wait for a last minute sneak bill.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing the same effort during the vote for the 2026-2027 budget. And if it’s not passed then they’ll keep shoving it in every budget cycle hoping nobody notices. Stay vigilant cause it isn’t over.
This land is your land, and this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream Waters
This land was made for you and meAs I went walking that ribbon of highway
And I saw above me that endless skyway
I saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and meI roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
All around me a voice was a-sounding
This land was made for you and meThere was a big high wall there that tried to stop me
Sign was painted, said, “Private Property”
But on the back side, it didn’t say nothing
This land was made for you and meWhen the sun comes shining, then I was strolling
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
A voice come chanting as the fog was lifting
This land was made for you and meThis land is your land, and this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream Waters
This land was made for you and me
Now Medicare and Snap
Republicans are absolute garbage
Let that Byrd keep singing. They removed the provision to limit the judiciary, and now they’re saving public lands. This “big beautiful bill” is getting smaller by the minute.
Forced? The land is ours anyways
Good but the fight over what is rightly ours is not over.
Thank Christ.
I’m here for this. But I am not naive enough to believe this is going away anytime soon because Republicans hate America.
See how they do this? Now the bill is somehow palatable. It’s not. Hook line and sinker. Add something outrageous, take it away, and it somehow becomes a win for the left despite all the other bullshit.
It’s almost as if the budget bill should be about budgets and not about whatever the fuck they want it to be about.
MAGA is such a lazy movement they just can’t be bothered to put together a proper legislative agenda..
It will come back in a different way. Republicans aren’t going to let this go.
Republicans don’t want to use taxpayer money to invest in affordable housing for Americans. That’s why they’ve always been so against helping the poor and homeless. Homeless Americans are dying on the streets across the country. Why the fuck are millions of acres of land trying to be sold for “affordable housing” when there are people in the fucking cities who need housing?
Would the money go towards housing projects? Section 8? What would be built on the land? Who would profit from the housing there? Selling public land is solely about the rich stealing from the American people. Any argument towards “affordable housing” is bullshit and shouldn’t even be entertained.
Remember, they had to be FORCED. Remember this in every election for the rest of your lives.
Selling public land that belongs to all Americans to help fund a tax break for the rich is just insane. What a slap in the face to the middle class and lower class.
They would sell their mother’s grave if it meant more money in their pockets. Nothing is sacred.
This is being removed by the parliamentarian, not because it is a betrayal of all Americans. And
>Lee, for his part, has vowed to return with a diluted version of the proposal,
Utah! Controll your Senator.
Great – now remove the elimination of the solar tax credit language!
The GOP 💩wants Americans Sick, Starving, Stupid and Dead ☠️ and they Want the USA to look like a back ally trash heap
This is great news AND it is still a terrible bill. Do you think healthcare should be taken away from tens of millions of Americans – including half of all newborn babies and seniors in nursing homes – to pay for tax cuts for BILLIONAIRES? Do you think Congress should add trillions of dollars to the deficit, cut programs that make groceries and utilities more affordable, force hospitals to close, make it impossible to regulate AI, and allow the president to ignore court orders? If you answered no, here’s what you can do:
1. Go to https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member to find your representative
2. Call them and tell them you are a constituent and want them to vote no to The “Big Beautiful Bill”.
My anger that they would even try that is too much to express verbally on this platform.
So thankful that it has been vetoed.
Finally, a shred of good news
They will be back stay vigilance and keep calling.
They aren’t going to stop until they have every piece of it.
Also yay let’s celebrate a win!
Keep the pressure on until all public lands are removed from the bill!
This is going to happen. Maybe not right now, but the idea is there and they will absolutely execute it.
Don’t celebrate just yet. God knows they’ll just stuff this somewhere randomly in another giant fuckin bill and hope it goes unnoticed.
Them putting it in the budget in the first place should get them fired but this is yet again another time where republicans get dealt with using the kid gloves.
The GOP leaders spent a month+ calling for the death of Obama and an end to his presidency over a tan suit and some spicy mustard yet none of them are ever held responsible for constantly fucking up the economy and government spending for a handful of peoples gain.
fuck yes! big win. greedy fucks
They won’t stop trying to privatize everything.
I’m still so saddened that they even tried, and will try again… can we really win every time?
I want everyone involved to be rejected by their communities for the rest of their lives. I want them to move because their neighbors hate them only to find they are hated in the new city too. I want them to never find peace again.
Typical negotiation. Put the worst shit possible in the agreement, then pull back on the stuff you knew was never going to make it to make it seem like you compromised and made people happy. Don’t lose sight of the AWFUL shit in this bill. This part of it was never passing.
Republicans are trash.
