Hi, I got a speeding ticket when I was vacationing in Germany last month. Now I’m back in the U.S.. Thankfully it’s just 30 euros…I think. My rental company sent me a link with the pdf, but no additional instructions. I can’t read German and tried to put the pictures in google translate, but am still confused on how I am supposed to pay it.
I see there is a link with a survey and some deadline for June 20th (I didn’t get the email from the rental company until today the 24th), so not sure if that’s already an issue. Does anyone know what the survey is for and the process for paying the fine? Will my rental company handle it? Do I wait for a letter in the Mail?
I looked through the subreddit and only saw some different versions of a ticket with no survey link, so wanted to ask about it. Thanks in advance

Transfer the money to the bank. There’s an IBAN number which you can use to make the international on the last block of the form.
You can either use the provided bank Details below, if your Bank / online Banking can do international Transfers of you can visit the site owi.lkspn.de with your Kennung = Username and Password. Some Browsers can translate Pages in real time, so maybe check that. In the online form you can usually pay with several methods, sometimes even Paypal.
If you pay now it should not be a problem, if you wait too long you might get additional fees
The rental company will probably give them your name and address and then you get a letter in the mail. They don’t have jurisdiction in the US and won’t be able to make you pay. Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Just ignore it. Nothing’s gonna happen.
P.s. I am German living in NA almost every time I am visiting relatives in Germany (twice a year) I collect some kind of ticket.
If u dont plan on revisiting just dont pay
Send a letter to the German government stating you’ll pay the ticket once their defense spending hits 5%.
I had a friend do the bank transfer for me, and I followed up with the city to confirm.
Now if I could only get Enterprise DE to realize I also already paid their “convenience fee,” and stop hounding me for a second helping.
Use the wise app. I’ve had this happen and easily paid it by loading dollars to Wise to convert to euro. Then sent using the IBAN.
Man, deadlines are always so short! I’ve often had this problem too, because a lot of my mail gets to my parents’ place, and it may take a week or two until they forward it to me.
What I always do in these cases is, give those people a call, explain that the payment is coming. Or send them a mail. Normally, they are not eager to escalate when you’ve just passed the deadline by a day or two.
But no doubt, you need to pay it now. And an international money transfer is usually costly. Maybe check out Wise, I used them to pay for my mortgage in Dubai because my bank wouldn’t transfer the money any more. (So, this is not some newfangled internet thingy – it works.)
