DALTON, Ga. — Lawmakers in our area are now sharing their thoughts on the conflict in the middle east, including Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Greene has been a vocal supporter of President Trump in the past, but a recent social media has showed some pushback.
Rep. Greene posted a series of tweets over the weekend seeming to publicly disagree with the Trump administration’s decision to strike Iran’s nuclear sites.
This marks a major departure for Greene who has been a key ally for the Trump administration in Congress.
Despite those remarks, Greene told us on Monday…
“I’m very pleased at his messaging that he put out today.”
That interview was six hours after the congresswoman’s social media post saying…
“Only 6 months in and we are back into foreign wars, regime change, and world war 3.”
Rep. Greene says she does agree with Trump on the need for peace.
“I think President Trump has clearly stated today, as he just put out on his Truth Social that it’s time for peace, and that’s exactly what the American people want to see.”
But some of Representative Greene’s constituents say the president’s decisions are not reflective of what the American people want…
Catoosa County Democratic party chairman Rob Nolen says…
“If she actually wanted to represent the views of her constituents, Rep. Greene would confidently criticize the president’s actions without immediately backpedaling to sing his praises.”
Rep. Greene says her criticism was regarding campaign promises.
“What we campaigned on was no more foreign wars, not being involved in regime change. And this is something that the American people are fully behind, and so I’ve been very vocal about that the past few days.”
Nolen called Rep. Greene’s post a “light dusting of criticism for the president.” and said “If she’s unwilling to stand up for her constituents when there’s broad bipartisan agreement, perhaps this is not the best job for her.”
Rep. Greene emphasized that she will continue to support the president, saying…
“He’s the leader of America first, and he created the MAGA agenda. And this is why I support President Trump. I’ve always supported him, and I fully support him now.”
The congresswoman explained part of her X statement, saying…
“MAGA is not a cult. We’re a group of Americans, and we’re allowed to have our own opinions, and we can still support President Trump, while we may disagree with him sometimes. And that’s what I was talking about.”
Our interview with Representative Greene was about an hour and a half before President Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
