A former butler to King Charles has revealed when the monarch may feel compelled to intervene in Meghan Markle’s commercial pursuits.
Grant Harrold – who previously worked for King Charles and Queen Camilla – shared that while the royals have kept out of Meghan’s work so far, the monarch could potentially remove her HRH title if it’s used for business ventures.
Speaking to Prime Casino, Harrold reflected on new reports which suggest the Duchess of Sussex could be moving into the hotel business and trademarking her lifestyle firm As Ever for ‘hospitality services’. Harrold said if Meghan were to use her royal title for business ventures, the Royal Family may be forced to step in.

Grant added that it would likely go through Prince Harry from King Charles, but he may remove the couple’s HRH titles if necessary. Grant also said that moving into this field wouldn’t align with Meghan’s brand, adding that it would be an expensive failure and a retreat would make more sense due to her love of wellness.
He said; “I don’t quite know why she’ll want to go down that route, because from a hospitality point of view, that’s going to cost a lot of money, and then she has to run it. If it’s a failure, that’s going to be a very expensive failure.
“It’s difficult to know when you hear these stories, because why would you want to have the hassle of having a hotel. I can understand she wants to have a retreat or something because she’s into wellness, but a hotel doesn’t really make sense with her brand.”
“If she was using her title for something, it’s possible they could step in. But it wouldn’t be King Charles phoning up personally, it would likely go through Harry,” he said.
“The royals haven’t stopped them so far, so I doubt this would happen. The only thing they could do in the future is remove their HRHs, for example, which is always a possibility but that’s the only thing they could do.”
