  1. Welcome to Switzerland! Believe it or not, they are. Megaimage is pricey. Go shopping to LIDL , Kaufland or Penny.

  2. Mega Image is a bit more expensive than other stores. Also there’s Mega Image and Mega Iamge Shop&Go. The latter is also much more expensive.

  3. Paine boiereasca aka Bread of the Medieval Oligarchs.
I would think that buying cheaper, worse stuff would be more affordable.

  4. If you come from west europe do you expect asia prices here or what ?

We actually have lower quality goods and higher prices because WE DON’T HAVE FUCKING SHENGEN*.

    a word*

  5. Yes, those prices are completely normal, even in other bigger cities like Oradea, Cluj or Sibiu.
Slowly prices will be like in Switzerland 😏

  6. Yes, they are normal prices especially at Mega Image. For better prices I recommend shopping at Lidl or Penny

  7. When I worked in Germany, I was so happy that I could buy a hand blender worth 3 hours of work. I was making around 10eur/h. In Romania you had to work 2 8-h working days to afford that. The hand blender’s price was the same. Welcome to the eastern bloc, where the poor remain poor.

  8. Romania is expensive compared to our income but most of those items are imported as well. Also, mega image is the most expensive of the bigger chains. And lastly, Germany has the lowest margins in groceries in the world. No one can compete with Germany at grocery prices, either imported or local produced.

  10. I remember a few years ago, I went to Italy and when I went shopping I noticed that the prices are the same, some even lower.

  11. Da cumetre , alea e preturile la noi acilea. Se traieste pe picior mare nu ca in saracia aia de vest. Uneori le mai marim noi cand ni se par prea mici .

  12. A few months ago I decided to go online and make two shopping carts to try and compare the price differences between the UK and RO, both carts had exactly the same 30 products, one was made at Asda(UK) and the other at Auchan(RO). The one at Asda’s ended up being 6 pounds cheaper, i cried, never again

  13. No confusion between eur/ron right? Prices are in RON. They are a little higher that normal in Mega Image, but many things that lead to these prices are also expensive. I own a business that sells stuff and honestly I feel bad that I have a high markup on certain products. But with all costs involved, without that high markup , the business could not function. And I’m not getting a big profit at all, more like new bank loans every year :). High taxes on low tier salaries migh be a reason, those people are involved in the entire chain of distribution. Lots of competition that exists purely because they work ilegally = low volume of sales/business/high markup needed, is another reason.

  14. Welcome to România, where you are classified as a third world country by most western european countries yet you have the same prices and half the salary.

    Enjoy your staying.

  15. The water is very expensive. Even for Borsec, 3.20 is too much. The other prices are a bit high, but not surprisingly so considering that’s Mega Image.

Consider a bigger store like Auchan, Carrefour, LiDL, Kaufland.

  16. Besides from buying at one of the most expensive supermarket brands in Romania, I would like to point out you went shopping at a supermarket in the center of the city, that was also revamped two-three years ago to be more “premium”.

Yes, Bucharest is not that cheap anymore and prices for many goods are equal or sometimes higher than in a Western Europe; however in your case you also paid a premium price for buying at a higher end supermarket.

Just to give you an example, comparing prices at Auchan to what you paid (for what I could find, some products are only available at Mega Image):

    – Borsec 2.95 lei vs 3.20 lei per bottle.

    – Leibniz Biscuits 4.20 lei vs. 4.59 lei.

    – Jacobs Coffee 0.65 lei vs. 0.74 lei per package.

    – Kinder Country 6.15 lei vs. 6.56 lei.

    – Milka Chocolate 3.20 lei vs. 4.06 lei.

  17. When you see romanian TV news like “30% of Romanians salaries are spent on food” you should know they are not joking.

  18. You also went for higher-end products. Depending on the store you can find cheaper things. I live on a tight budget in Romania and while it’s not fancy, it can be done.
