Nato chief Mark Rutte praises Donald for making Europe ‘pay in a BIG way’

2. Damn they’re not even trying to hide the squirming vassalage at this point. Although in this case –

   On the one hand, they’ve understood that the way to his heart is to appeal to his ego. On the other hand, despite seemingly Europe doing this to make themselves independent, they’re still groveling at the feet of their Daddy.

   People call Trump childish and infantile all the time. But what does it say about Europe’s leaders if this is how they conduct their US affairs? Trump gets plenty of hate, but what about these leaders of the free world?

   Also note that Trump still questions the US’ commitments to Nato, and expects his own country to not be held to these new spending goals.

Rutte told Trump to his face that Europe is rearming because of Trump and we will have a larger and better funded army than him, but he said it in such a way that made Trump feel like he was being praised. Rutte is a genius. If you ever wonder how a conversation between an ant and a human would play out it’s similar to this.

4. Anyone finding this pathetic rather than absolutely brilliant is lol. Rutte is a master at diplomacy. He knows what you need to do to manipulate narcissists like Trump.

5. He’s just doing his job of holding NATO together. Why on earth would you tell Trump the truth if it will just antagonize him. You have to manage him like one of those incompetent kings from medieval times and trick him into believing everything was his decision.

6. Rutte has been consistent with crediting Trump for the need to rearm Europe. This message might be the most blatant ass kissing there is, but Rutte has mentioned many times before that Trump was the one who wanted Europe to pay more for their defenses, for years now.

7. This is Rutte’s job. He is NATO, not a country and from his perspective it might be tense but NATO is getting increased funding through countries rearming.

8. Rutte does what needs to be done to keep Nato together. And thats his job. Short term thisnis absolutly necessary. Long term we will have far more leverage thanks to thr increased military spending. Is it humiliating? Sure. But for now. Its necessary.

9. Will be real funny when all that money will go in the European military complex then orange diaper man will whine that it wasn’t supposed to be this way and will try to put tarrifs again because his little ego will be hurt.

10. What’s entirely missing from this thread is the fact that these conversations have been going on for decades. Yes, Trump’s style is extremely aggressive and alienating and scary, but no, that doesn’t undo the fact that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has scared the fuck out of many European countries. And if kissing up to Trump is how to maintain the peace then so be it. Because kissing up to Putin means a lot more than just saying nice words.

11. On the one hand his words are cringeworthy. On the other, he needs to work hard to make the US stay in NATO. I’m not sure if there is any other way than brown nosing at the moment.
