In the US, Trump is setting us up for a mass casualty event when one of these killer multi state heat waves coincides with a prolonged blackout. If we wanted to talk national security, like we were being honest, every neighborhood would have enough wind, solar, and other power generation capacity and cumulative battery storage needed to keep everyone alive until the heat wave relents.
Since the right wing, especially is going ballistic worrying about Iranian sleeper cells being activated to attack infrastructure in the US, in my opinion, we don’t really need to worry about that. I ran as much more likely to do as a handful of other nations have already done And complete one or two nuclear weapon weapons in secret with materials removed from the bunker Trump just struck.
I’m not really worried about anybody detonating nuclear weapons at the edge of space to create an EMP either
I’m a lot more concerned about the Jan 6 prepper crazies going after the grid the next time the Democrats hold power;
I’m a lot more concerned that our antiquated hodgepodge electric grid will simply collapse under increasing demands ;
I’m a lot more concerned that there will be a solar storm at least as severe as the documented historic event in 1859 called the Carrington event.
If the world really made sense, we would be encouraging rather than punishing and obstructing, rooftop and backyard and community solar, and we would increase R&D to provide cost-effective “hardening” of these systems to protect them from electromagnetic interference from whatever source
It reminds me of the aftermath of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017. The electric grid was destroyed, but here and there around the island emergency operations sprung up centered on whatever Village had a building with rooftop solar.
Trump is determined to not learn from history and is setting us up for a mass casualty event much worse than Pearl Harbor and 9/11 combined.
If the world really made sense, that alone would be enough to drive him from office
This is old news that has to be repeated over and over again because the younger generation of people need to learn. Unfortunately, the deniers will also continue to claim the it is scaremongering.
For goodness sake, stop sugar-coating this stuff. Stop equivocating. Even if it’s just in the headline.
There is no *could*, no *may* or *might*. It’s not a mere possibility. Extreme heat ***IS ALREADY, right now, today*** imperiling human life on a massive scale, and this will continue to increase in frequency and severity.
As a direct result of human emissions, driven largely by the consumption of the richest people in the richest nations, the planet Earth is now heating up faster than at just about any point we are aware of in the geological record. This is only the beginning, and we are not prepared.
Two letter carriers died already this week here in the states. Summer started on Sunday.
