An Illinois appellate panel Wednesday partially revived a class-action against Ferrara Candy Co., paving the way for ex-employees to pursue claims related to a data breach they say put their personal information at risk.

Ferrara, the Chicago-based maker of candies such as Laffy Taffy, Lemonhead and Jelly Belly, was hacked in 2021 and notified those potentially affected that certain identifying information, including Social Security numbers and bank account information, may have been taken.

Two ex-employees, Ervin Olson and Shawn Wesson, filed a class complaint claiming the company failed to take reasonable measures to protect its workers’ information. …
