Hi everyone!
I’ll be staying around Interlaken and I’m planning to take the Glacier Express.
🟡 What ticket or route would you recommend for the best scenic experience from my location?
🟡 Do Glacier Express trains make photo or scenic stops, or do they go directly from point A to point B without stopping?
I’m looking for something beautiful but practical since I’m based in the Interlaken area. Thanks for any tips! 🙏

I’ve taken the train on most of the Glacier Express route (not necessarily on the Glacier Express itself) and I think the most scenic part is the segment near Filisur (the Albula line). That said, the special trains are kind of tourist traps; the views from normal trains are already excellent, and you can just buy a point-to-point or day ticket and hop on and off as much as you’d like. Note that the Glacier Express line does not go through Interlaken, so you’ll need to decide where to position yourself to start.
You’re asking locals, and we would all guide you to skip the touristy Glacier Express. I took a visitor on it once and it’s super crowded and the food and service is subpar compared to what you pay. There are barely any photo stops and the staff don’t care about the bad behavior of tourists…
The SBB trains run along the same route and you can hop on and off wherever you want. I wouldn’t skip Disentis, the Rheinschlucht, or the Oberalppass. That’s Andermatt – Chur. Brig – Zermatt is also a beautiful ride.
Are you looking for a tour guide or just the train ride? I have a friend who runs a train tour on the Andermatt to Chur route and I can dm you her info if you’re interested.
