As the nation continues to warm, the UK is doubling down on viticulture, with total vineyard surface area quadrupling since 2000. Still, there’s a long way to go before Britain becomes a major player — not least because of the collapse in exports since 2018 (I wonder what might have caused that… surely not increased barriers to trade with our nearest and largest partners).

Looks cool border sizes are a bit large though. It was hard to tell I was looking at the UK instead of nice looking cups for a second too.
Bar Charts could use some color
82% collapse in exports. Wow. Just wow.
The wine is… some of the best I’ve tasted globally without question. It’s just bloody expensive.
Export drop can be easily explained by Brexit most likely, quite easy to find yourself in one of the vineyards just following public footpaths which is fun

about a decade ago was on a cruise and dad decided why not and try the single bottle of english wine on the list one formal night, was rather nice but was fully when the maître d (head waiter) showed up and asked for our review as turns out we were the only people to try it since they added it to the wine list a few months prior
I go hiking in Kent fairly often and there’s definitely more of a push on vineyards for tours and tasting. My understanding of the geography is that Kent is the same chunk of chalk that makes up not just the Pas de Calais but also the Loire Valley so sure, why not grow here as things get warmer?
Sadly I’m not a white drinker so I don’t have an opinion on the product.
Climate change has helped viticulture in the UK but also presented new problems due to increasing yearly rainfall. From an agricultural perspective, the biggest challenge is fungal disease caused by damp conditions and the massive cost of fungicide’s due to chemical bans each year.
Unless English wine becomes significantly cheaper, it won’t be exported or consumed domestically in large quantities.
English sparkling is pretty damn good. We like Gusbourne – it’s a treat for special occasions and not significant different in price to (decent) French champagne.
British Airways started selling only English wine on their short flights recently but I think last year’s harvest was so poor they had to stop. I hope they bring it back though.
Russia is going to be a wine powerhouse one day thanks to climate change.
This is assuming the AMOC doesn’t slow down/collapse by then and actually make the UK colder.
