Loved Greenwich pub battles to keep riverside tables branded ‘visual clutter’ by council

  1. Jesus, councils will do anything but what people actually want. Miserable wankers.

  2. “But Greenwich London Borough Council claims the setup “prevents people from enjoying the view of the river”.”

I somehow doubt that’s true. If anything, the opposite is more likely to be true.

  3. “How dare you all enjoy yourselves in fresh air over a pint?!?? “ council Karen, probably

  4. Gonna get downvoted for this, but as a local I want to weigh in. The Thames path in this section does get overcrowded, partly due eto the pub tables and benches. It becomes difficult to walk through on a busy day. It’s also technically not pub space, it’s council property, so why should the people paying for a pint have priority over anyone else passing through the area to sit here? The image above is seldom what I’ve seen of these seats at the Trafalgar tavern, it is usually much busier in the summer. I’ve only managed to get a seat at the Trafalgar Tavern once, despite living in the area for over 5 years now, it’s too busy.

I don’t know the right answer but I don’t think it’s such a clear “Council sucks, pub rocks” as many want it to be.

  5. Can’t stand this flag shagging pub and its £8 plastic glass pints of Guinness.

If this was anywhere else it wouldn’t be a discussion. It’s not their property, they have no approvals, and yet they’ve decided to put about 30 tables next to that area of the river to then force people to buy from them in order to sit there. Genuinely don’t see how anybody informed can say that thats reasonable or ok.

  6. Why is Greenwich council acting like there’s nowhere to see the Thames from besides this .2km strip of path

  7. Bit weird as Greenwich often love to make pavements as difficult to pass all by themselves. Maybe they’re jealous.
