Welsh councils told to only collect rubbish every three or four weeks

  1. This is just ridiculous! I’m in Spain currently, bins emptied every night, including recycling.

  2. Do these idiots actually want Reform to bloody well win next year or something?

For me personally it won’t make a difference but for the families with kids on my road it almost certainly will cause problems. It’s like Welsh Labour have totally lost touch with the average working family.

  3. Fucking joke – in Bridgend they’re frothing at the mouth for an excuse to do this. We already make more rubbish bags than we can give to the bin men, we’re lucky we have a car so that we can do tip runs… Most of my neighbours don’t though so they just fly tip by the nearby train station in one massive pile so that the council is forced to move it.

This problem is only going to get worse.

  4. so fun watching my services decline as my council tax goes up

  5. Is this essentially a push to get people to consume less, just without openly admitting it? It doesn’t make sense to me, unless the entire country is on the brink of bankruptcy and there’s no choice but to cut services. Either way, it’s a grim situation. If it’s about forced austerity or financial collapse, both scenarios paint a bleak picture.

  6. Yep it’s awful. I live in Denbighshire. I’ve got a dog. That dog shits in my garden. I put the shit in the black bin. In this heat it’s fermenting there for a month. My bin is a biohazard.

  7. Take your rubbish and dump it at your MP’s house, they’ll soon fix the problem

  8. I was shocked when I had my baby that the poo nappy bins aren’t collected every week. There’s no way to reduce the waste (cloth did not work for us), so we have a huge bin that’s full of dirty nappies that gets dragged out twice a month.

  9. Denbighshire spent £20m to collect non recyclable every 4 weeks and still ended up over budget. It’s cost more to deliver less service and increase recycling than it did before.

Missed the last residual collection so it’s 8 weeks worth and almost impossible to move the bin now.

  10. Theyve already implemented this where i live and its just crazy to me. If its for a person who lives alone in a flat or something then yeah this might work. For people who live with a family though this isnt sustainable. With the reduced amount of bags you can put out, its hard to get rid of the rubbish even on bin day.

For a person who lives with a family and pets this is a complete nightmare as well. Ive got 3 cats… you cant recycle used cat litter so where is it supposed to go? You leave tons of cat litter in bags outside your house and its just going to be a hazard. Im all for recycling (if done properly) but its just not fair to put these constraints on people.

You can only take a limited amount of bags to the tip now as well so sometimes youre stuck with trash you cant get rid of. Public bins, also gone so youre often left with the dilemma of encourage rats or fly tip.

It really is awful how far Wales has fallen. It used to be a nice place to live but over the years its gotten worse and worse.

  11. No change for Conwy who have been doing this for a long time now.

  12. So they reduce bin collections….which in turn will increase fly tipping… are they really going to save money?

  13. Isn’t this already a thing? Ours is limited to three bags every three weeks and it’s plenty. We barely fill two bags in that time because the recycling system is so robust.

  14. I’ve had bin collections every 3 weeks and with two adults and two cats we only filled about a third of a wheelie bin by the time collection day rolled around. We were worried at first about it not being enough collections and about smell, but we’ve never had an issue. Obviously families are going to create more rubbish, but even our neighbours who had families of 5 never had overflowing bins

  15. Our black bins are once a month. Recycling is weekly. If there’s a reason your household is creating more than a full black bin’s worth of landfill waste a week you can get an extra bin.

  16. It’s been like that for a while here. 3 weeks is much harder to keep track of than 2

  17. It’s always money, isn’t it? We’ll have racists in charge next year at this rate.
