  1. Quick everyone go back in time and stop the massive corporations from doing all this damage and vote in representatives that actually care!

  2. I’m not into conspiracy theories, but I have long suspected that we missed the threshold to prevent permanent damage in the 90s, and that we are already in runaway climate change. I just hope my kids have a salvageable future left

  3. End of the article: “While the warnings from the report are stark, its authors said that the rate of emissions increases appears to be slowing as new clean tech is being used.”

We are working on it actively 😀

  4. Three years? And the current american administration has 3.5 to go. Nope.

  5. My attitude towards this is a combo of pessimism and optimism:

We ain’t hitting the 1.5C goal. It isn’t happening.

But fighting like bastards for the 1.5C goal might mean we manage to keep it to 2C, which is bad but better than if we ignore it and blast past 2.5C, etc.

There isn’t really a point where it’s reasonable to go, “Well it can’t get any worse, might as well give up.” There’s gradients of bad all the way down.

  6. Welp, nice knowing you all. Gonna go ahead and get out the sunscreen and prepare for heat stroke.

  7. We already blew past this awhile ago according to other studies I thought.

  8. So if we can’t get warming to stay below 1.5C how are we going to get it to stabilize at 1.5C?

We’d have to reduce emissions by a huge percentage in just 3 years if we want to keep the world 1.5C. Even at current rates we are going to see 2C in the next decade certainly before 2040.

Co2 emissions are likely to continue to climb. Everything from cars, shipping, energy production are all expected to see growth. Population growth will just mean more resources need to be used finite and renewable ones. If renewable resources are replenished at proper rates things are going to get bad.

Population growth is expected to peak around 2050 then start to decline. That’s about the only way to reduce global warming at this point is to reduce population.

  9. We have passed it. As a species we are more likely to creat a device that can be packaged and sold to allow us to safely breath polluted air than to clean it up. Climate change will be no different. The elites will protect themselves and send 99% of us out for pasture

  10. Shit, I forgot to turn the basement light off. Fuck. Sorry, guys. My bad.

  11. Yeah not gonna happen. Look at our world leaders, dawg.

  12. People will start to care when the famines and droughts start killing millions. But they’ll pretend like it’s fate and couldn’t be prevented. So it goes.

  13. Unfortunately us peasants can’t do much about it. Can blame all the celebrities abd rich people in the world for this one.

  14. my favorite conspiracy theory is that global warming was done on purpose to unfreeze the northwest passage.

We’ve known about the effects of burning fossil fuels for over a century. We could have stopped this at any point in time.

We had electric vehicles over a hundred years ago.

We have even demonstrated the ability to solve global climate issues. We put a hole in the ozone layer, and we figured that shit out real quick.

  15. Don’t worry… We will find out how accurate that time frame is.. because we won’t do shit because corporations keep burning plastics and oil

  16. Oh gee I wonder if we’ll make any progress to slowing climate change over the next three years

  17. The earth will survive. Humans are just another catastrophe just like many the planet has been subjected to over it’s existence.

  18. How humans will respond:

    1. Ignore this warning
    2. Emit carbon at ever increasing rates
    3. Reach 1.5C in less than three years, once again surpassing expectations ⭐️

  19. Can’t wait until all the national forests are sold off and logged so we can really speed run the apocalypse.

  20. We should be focusing more on Plan B at this point(carbon sequestration?) because there is little hope for this (we still shouldn’t give up though because every little bit will still help and scientists should be making that clear instead of these unrealistic targets.)

  21. The super wealthy have been building underground bunkers.

I doubt we’ll make the deadline.

    • (r)Edit: Rats always jump ship before it sinks

  22. I don’t want to come off as a doomer so I’m just going to say that, while doing something to drastically reverse course in 3 years is seemingly unrealistic, we should do whatever we can to mitigate the damage. The damage is now baked into the system now and we are already seeing the results today.

  23. I wish scientists would just say “we’re all going to die” instead of these warnings that no one listens to.
