  1. The money spent on HS2 could of housed every veteran and eligible homeless person.

It could of massively improved the NHS. It could of been used for increasing hm forces personnel and their accommodation.

Instead we get a bat tunnel, wrecked green space and a massively over costly white elephant that only a few will use.

Another enquiry will be had at some point to investigate where all this money went??

  2. It is ridiculous. Surely there were cheaper ways to protect bats?

    Also rail protects the climate

  3. The people who agitated for this and the planners who approved it all need to be named and shamed. That’s what’s missing in these public projects: any accountability for the decision makers, who may very well be civil servants who should be sacked.

  4. And yet we’re super happy to pay tens of millions per mile of motorway, or hundreds of millions on junction upgrades.

  5. I’m ok with this protective measure. Now please stop arguing and finish the whole railway project.

  6. i wonder if the bat protesters are also the same people that approve killing babies……

  7. This is clearly an extremely stupid decision, on a project where it wanting to be the best in the world has overridden any common sense when it has come to cost. But it is really an outlier.

I fear that because of this, the need to do sensible conservation work as part of major construction projects will be done away with, when it could do so much to improve the environment.

  8. The issue is New Labour. They farmed off decisions away from parliament and ministers to unaccountable quangos. The decision whether to go ahead with this bat tunnel should be down to a minister.
