[Mitch McConnell](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/mitch-mcconnell-wont-seek-reelection-2026-rcna192997) may no longer be [the Senate majority leader](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/matters-mitch-mcconnell-will-step-senate-gop-leader-rcna140952), but he does not lack for influence in the chamber’s caucus. In a private meeting Tuesday amid Republicans’ scramble to pass [their budget reconciliation bill](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/overlapping-problems-create-uncertainty-future-republican-megabill-rcna214977), McConnell tried to assuage the fears of senators facing blowback. “I know a lot of us are hearing from people back home about Medicaid,” he said, [according to Andrew Desiderio of Punchbowl News](https://x.com/AndrewDesiderio/status/1937593205102690353). “But they’ll get over it.”

  2. This is an effort to divert the attention of people calling and contacting their senators to a central, national figure on this topic. Don’t fall for it: your Republican senator is the one with the vote that matters just the same as McConnell’s, contact and pressure your own Senator.

  3. Yeah they’ll get over it cause they’ll be dead!

  4. Why can’t the rich just get “get over” losing their tax cuts? Why is that never an option?

  5. Guess they will get over losing Medicaid. A lot of them will be dead.

  6. Of course they’ll get over it, they’ll be dead.

When will these idiots figure out that it’s cheaper in the long run, far cheaper, to offer people preventative care instead of waiting til they’re sick to death or in labor before they take them in at emergency?

  7. Yeah, they’ll get over having to go bankrupt because they get diagnosed with cancer.

  8. “Thanks, I’ll be careful”

    “You’ll be *dead!!!*”

  9. Sure. The people that die because they lose their Medicaid won’t be complaining at all.

    Because they’ll be dead.

  10. They can make the base love this. But MAGA media channels will have to set up some channels streaming the delicious suffering of imprisoned nonwhite and LGBTQ people for 24/7 fash gooning. I’m not even exaggerating.

Most of the base will give up their medical care, their homes, their freedoms for more of this bitter juice. Delicious spectacles of sadism are ONLY thing they really demand of Trump. This is why nothing Trump ever does turns them against him. Even when he hurts them, too.

Remember that the apotheosis of the Q fantasy was not a world safe for children but an eternal 24/7 torture and slaughter spectacle for the base to savor.

Will they part with Medicaid for this? Oh, will they.

  11. It seriously kills me Mitcu McConnell will likely die without suffering any consequences for the pain he’s caused others. Life isn’t fair, I’m an agnostic who hopes and prays for an after life just for McConnell to suffer

  12. More likely he’s confident that the GOP can sell it as the Democrats or trans people or immigrants (etc) who are to blame

    and sadly he’s right

The odds that the GOP face any consequences (or rather, any meaningful long lasting consequences) are tiny.

  13. He doesn’t care about voters. He’s not running again. He might not live to the next election.

  14. Yeah losing medical coverage and jobs, that’s going to go over well. Hospitals and medical offices closing across the country, that’s not going to bode well. I don’t think there are enough soldiers and police or militias to keep tens of millions of angry civilians down.

  15. He’s not wrong. We haven’t done shit about anything but just moved along.

Meanwhile the current regime runs over and through everything

  16. Get over it, you mean they’ll won’t be alive.. Let him go without health care and see how he gets its over.

What if they’ve had medication for years in Medicaid and they have to go cold turkey?

  17. Is that the same Mitch McConnell who recovered from polio in a government-funded medical facility, or are there two now and I need to keep track of which is which like this is some Jon Favreau shit?

  18. He’s probably not wrong. Voters almost never hold Republicans accountable for anything. Republicans have been promising to make healthcare as dogshit as possible for years and their voters don’t care.

Democrats couldn’t message their way out of a paper bag, so they will be useless in leveraging this for any electoral gains.

It took Trump publicly botching the COVID response to lose the 2020 election. Losing Medicaid will happen in private and won’t have anywhere near the visibility.

  19. This dude is a bad cold from seeing Hells Gates and he’s like “Fuck poor people!”

  20. May his cruelty and callousness be revisited on his family for a dozen generations.

  21. Let’s take away Mitch’s health insurance and see if he’ll get over that. He should. What a stupid thing to say. SMH.

  22. Kentucky has so many people on Medicaid. But I believe they will vote against their own best interests to own the libs.

  23. Translation… “Dead voters can’t vote” … despicable

  24. Brian Thompson was assassinated last year because of his role in denying healthcare to subscribers and it had the most politically unified response of everything that has happened since 9/11 sparked a “rally around the flag” for Bush 2.

Pretty brave of Mitch McConnell to feel safe similarly denying healthcare.

  25. Losing Medicaid isn’t something people just ‘get over.’ It’s the difference between life and death, treatment and suffering, stability and crisis. That’s not a political gamble. It’s a moral failure.

  26. GOP: We won’t ever cut Medicaid.

GOP: You get to opt out.

GOP: You’re going to get over not having it. (We’re here)

GOP: Can you believe those liberals monsters want you paying for someone else?
