Venezuela buying oil is kinda sad
Venezuela is so horribly mismanaged it hurts, they’re making Iran look good in comparison.
They have worlds biggest oil reserves, more than Saudi Arabia and they’re buying oil from Iran. Because they never invest money into processing their own properly.
5% of Venezuela in 2025 looks much less than 4% of Japan 2017
This is actually one of the dynamics Anne Applebaum talks about in Authocracy Inc., that is Authocracies supporting each others to sidestep the negative consequences of sanctions and keep their buddy dictators in power.
I can’t be the only one bugged by how that little sliver on the 2025 diagram is clearly not 5%, right?
