Plans for a new memorial for Queen Elizabeth II in St James’s Park have been unveiled, with Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice having a key link to it. The park memorial, which is just a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace, has been designed by Lord Foster in tribute to the late Queen.

The main part of the memorial is a large bridge across the park which will be inspired by the design of the Queen Mary Fringe diamond tiara. This is because the tiara was of great sentimental value to the late Queen, especially as she wore it for her wedding day in 1947.

However, this memorial design also has a sweet link to two other royals.

This is because Princess Anne, the late Queen’s daughter, and Princess Beatrice, one of the late monarch’s granddaughters, have both also worn the special historic tiara before.

Princess Beatrice, 36, wore the special tiara five years ago in July 2020 during her pandemic wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

The ceremony was attended by a small handful of people, including the late Queen and Prince Philip.

As reported by GB News, Princess Anne, 74, also wore the headpiece for her wedding to her first husband Captain Mark Phillips in 1973.

As well as the bridge, other features of the memorial are set to include a statue of the Queen in a new civic space named Queen Elizabeth II Place at Marlborough Gate, a new Prince Philip Gate on the other side of the park on Birdcage Walk with a statue of the late Duke, as well as a “family of gardens”, twisting paths and a contemporary wind sculpture.

Speaking of being selected to create the tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, Lord Foster said: “Her Majesty loved history and tradition, so this is reflected in the inspiration of the original design of St James’s Park by Sir John Nash.

“At the heart of our masterplan is a translucent bridge symbolic of Her Majesty as a unifying force, bringing together nations, countries, the Commonwealth, charities and the armed forces.”

It is expected to be unveiled in 2026 to coincide with what would have been the late Queen’s 100th birthday year.
