What decision
As long as they say that because Russia is cheating in the Olympics and not because of politics I‘m fine with it
They should have been excluded a long time ago, for cheating in most of the international competitions. Now more than ever.
Fuck the IOC.
It sucks
Do I want representatives of a country in any international community, who think it’s normal to invade friendly neighbours, kill civilians and rape woman and kids without punishment?
Not at all! If they don’t punish their criminals, we need to punish them as criminals. Because for what did we built an international law system? To get at least some baseline for everyone about what is right or wrong. In order to protect it, it is mandatory to punish those who violate it.
And yes, this means excluding them from any bigger international event. They want to be criminals, then let them experience jail for a while!
Where is the question? Exclude them. It’s a matter of course!
I mean, they couldnt play for cheating for what? 2 Times in a row or more?
Might as well expell them, the athletes can still compete like they the other times under the russian Olympic something flag.
While I agree with “bringing politcs” in sports, as this “politics” are costing human lifes, at the same time they are some hypocrites for allowing to have olympics in countries where human rights are less than a suggestion, and allow the use of the olympics as an international pr to clean their immage (while the very construction of the olyimpic stadiums costs workers lifes).
You opened this up for thoughts?? @mods ban hammer immediately. You are not allowed to have another thought than the moderators
I thinks there are other countries that need to be excluded aswel.
What is question here? We started following US/EU in politics long time ago, which is just obvious now. When US imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court judges for opening investigation of potential US personal war crimes we did nothing. That is just one small example.
World is changing overnight, we have joined west fraction and we are just following that route. Whoever doesn’t like it might be in wrong place. Now regarding our neutrality, well that might be much more sensitive topic as now we might be only remaining county believing in it.
I’m glad Viola is putting her foot down. The IOC is infamous for trying to weasel out of any obligation.
During the Peloponnesian War in 424 B.C., Spartans were banned from competing in or attending the Olympic games. Let’s see if society can make any progress in another 2500 years from now..
Wasn’t the whole point of the Olympics to get even enemy countries participe in a non-violent competition?
Russia sucks but neutral organizations should not be forced to pick a side.
Its bullshit is what it is. Im Russian myself and while i give 0 fucks squared about the current situation from either side of the conflict, Switzerland is ill-placed to pull this kind of crap. They’re happy to take our money from tourism and investment but noooooo we cant have athletes compete.
“Neutral” my ass, they’re only as neutral as it serves the country just like everyone else.
..Why?
Leave politics out of sports. If an individual cheats, ban him but definetly not because that person is from a certain region of the world.
