Hello all! I am in Warsaw rn and do not speak polish. What is going on here? There are a lot of old people in red cloaks with a holy figure on them. From my googling it seems like this is a denomination of Christianity but i am confused as to why they are in the middle of this square. Is this a protest or a regular occurrence?

  2. It’s a fringe movement founded by a Catholic priest who’s now officially suspended in his duties by his superiors (that didn’t bother him and he continues as usual).
    They mix Catholic traditionalism with Polish nationalism. Among other things, they want Poland to become a monarchy with Jesus officially as the king- head of state.

    The priests himself was a kind of meme a few years back, with clips with his sermons (rants at modernity) going viral.

  9. Fact: Polish law does not allow Jesus to be crowned the king of Poland, because a person with a criminal conviction cannot hold public office in this country.

  10. Plac Zamkowy is a kind of Hyde Park. Every weekend, and often during the week, you can come across demonstrations, parades, protests, rallies, etc. Every political option, different groups, religious speeches, and so on. You can get used to it 😉

  27. Most likely they are part of a cult of a suspended priest Piotr Natanek. He’s batshit crazy and so are his followers. He became a meme around 2010, when he lectured parents about spiritual dangers of Harry Potter, hair gel and black nail polish. They always wear these red cloaks.
