**From Steve Benen, producer for “The Rachel Maddow Show”:**
Austrian reporter Johannes Petrov reminded Trump, “You once said that you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours,” at which point Trump interjected, “Of course I said that sarcastically.”
Undeterred, the reporter asked, “But you’ve been in office for five months and five days. Why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?”
The Republican responded, “Because it’s more difficult than people would have any idea.”
The first part of the exchange was notable in its own right. As a candidate, Trump repeatedly promised American voters that he’d end Russia’s devastating war in Ukraine before he was sworn in for a second term. He failed.

Resolve? f that, there is way too much money to be grifted into Trump and his proxy accounts to keep it going…I love how the population keeps getting clowned by the system and yet they remain too ignorant to actually do something about it…masterful by the ultra wealthy to keep doing the same thing they have done since money and assets were discovered. Now since I am religious, I think that was about 2000 years ago, when Cain struck down able for his hunk of farmers cheese he was eating…for sure started then.
I’m honestly surprised that Trump is still sending aid to Ukraine, not that I’m complaining. It just seems like he fell back to the status quo.
I’m not sure if he was ever serious about ending the war.
Powerful people want this war to keep going.
Taco never would had even thought any of the hows, it was a throw away line that he knew his base would latch onto, it played into the belief by his followers that he was some sort of master negotiator, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
As an international community we shouldn’t be sanewashing Trump or his MAGA base. Look where it got the US.
Trump: “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.”
Narrator: “Everyone else knew it.”
He pretends to be this “great negotiator,” claiming he could just call up Putin and get this resolved on his first day. Same with the conflict with Israel and Hamas, Israel, and so on. The “great negotiator” and “no wars” president simply gave up on Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Hamas, and then resorted to bombing Iran instead of negotiating any deal.
He also said he’d have 90 trade deals in 90 days and I don’t think he has any at this point. He says the same thing with just everything.
It’s all bluster and bravado with no substance but somehow his followers buy into it, despite doing virtually nothing he claimed he’d do. Their memory is as short as the last thing Trump has said.
It’s difficult for him to let putin be on top
He doesn’t hold the cards.
Is Steve Benen the Temu Steve Bannon
I am confused, when he said that, was it meant sarcasticly or literally? Both? None?
