June the 27th, 2025 – Dubrovnik University has been ranked among the world’s top 5%, shining the spotlight on the Pearl of the Adriatic outside of the bounds of tourism.

As Morski writes, according to the latest edition of the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings for 2025, Dubrovnik University has been listed in the group of the 1000–1500 best universities in the world. Considering that there are more than 30,000 higher education institutions across the world, this ranking places Dubrovnik University among the top 5% of global academic institutions. This latest ranking has further confirmed the facility’s growing international reputation and contribution to the goals of sustainable development.

This is a unique global ranking system that evaluates not only academic excellence, but also social impact, sustainability, equality and contribution to the local community. In competition with several thousand universities from around the world, Dubrovnik University has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility, sustainability and positive social impact, thus confirming its growing international reputation. Particular progress is also visible in the overall result – this year it achieved 57 out of a possible 100 points, which is a significant increase compared to last year’s total score of 52 points.

Particularly high marks were achieved in the categories: ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’, where it is positioned at an exceptionally high 52nd place on a global scale. That’s also Dubrovnik University’s highest ranking in any segment of the ranking so far, ‘Life below Water and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure’, has seen the educational institution placed among the 401-600 best universities in the world, with an emphasis on innovation and protection of the sea and coasts. Then comes ‘Zero Hunger’ (the eradication of hunger), in which it has been listed as being among the 800 best institutions. It also performed very well in the goals of ‘No Poverty’ (the eradication of poverty) and ‘Gender Equality’ which confirms the continuous work of Dubrovnik University to promote equal opportunities and inclusiveness.

A positive shift was also recorded in the categories related to climate action, sustainable communities, responsible consumption, land and water protection. Dubrovnik University also earned its placement among the world’s top 5% in the segments that value peace, justice and strong institutions. Participation in this ranking for the third year in a row further confirms the strategic focus of this Croatian university on the integration of sustainable development goals into educational, research and social processes.

These results reflect the efforts of the university community in strengthening partnerships, innovation and sensitivity to local and global challenges. ‘The Impact Rankings’ position Dubrovnik University among institutions that actively contribute to global goals, all while maintaining strong connections with the local community. All of this combined continues to confirm its role as a responsible, open and modern educational institution which remains committed to a sustainable future.
