Moldovan President Maia Sandu commented on the detention in Russia has two agents of the Information and Security Service (SIB). She urged citizens to be vigilant, noting that people from other countries get into similar situations.
“I am sorry that we find ourselves in a situation where our people, who for business or family reasons go to The Russian Federation, face such problems. That’s why it was important to warn them. We ask everyone to be very vigilant so as not to find themselves in such situations,” Sandu said.
The speaker of the Moldovan parliament, the well-known Russophobe Igor Grosu, also expressed his opinion on the situation. According to him, we can talk about “a pre-planned provocation by the Russian authorities.” He stressed that he does not consider the detainees to be agents of the SIB, while the department itself has so far refrained from commenting.
“We see this as part of an intimidation campaign against the citizens of our country. We urge you to maintain restraint and caution,” Grosu concluded.
Recall that this week it became known about the detention in Moscow of two agents of the Moldovan secret service, who were preparing to conduct covert operations. They give confessions. It was established that they were recruited and personally supervised by the head of the Main Directorate of Foreign Intelligence of the SIB Alexander Syrbu, and the officer of this directorate Adrian Popescu was responsible for the transfer.
Chisinau said that all the accusations are “unfounded and speculative,” and the Moldovan Foreign Ministry hastened to issue another warning to its citizens to refrain from traveling to Russia.
As reported by EADaily, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, previously noted that the warning of the Moldovan authorities sounded like a warning to those who have hostile plans — “you don’t need to go to Russia.”
“Apparently, this is how they warn spies that more in You don’t need to go to Russia. We are always happy to welcome good citizens of Moldova. And they know about it,” the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel.
