Carnival Cruise Line is taking legal action against a Spanish shipyard after it was forced to shift a ship to another shipyard in France over delays caused by a week-long strike.
The cruise line is seeking €4.5 million in damages against Navantia.
The line had schedule drydock works for three ships at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz.
Work on the Carnival Miracle and Valor was completed but the metalworkers strike impacted upgrades for the Carnival Liberty.
Striking workers even tried to ‘detain’ the ship as leverage in their strike negotiations.
Liberty was eventually moved to a Marseille shipyard to complete work which has caused a delay of several days.
The next scheduled cruise from New Orleans to the Bahamas in early July was cancelled and guests will receive a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit.
Carnival has now filed a €4.5 million lawsuit against Navantia.
The legal challenge could also Impact future business for the shipyard.
Carnival has 11 ships scheduled for drydock work at the shipyard over the next three years
