VID stated that it is working to restore the system, but it is not clear when this will happen.

The VID said that the causes of the technical malfunction are unknown.

“This will be investigated, but for now, all resources are being devoted to restoring the system as quickly as possible,” the SRS said in a statement.

Given that the EMDAS malfunction also affects customs clearance of postal items and people are unable to submit import customs declarations, the VID has asked Latvijas Pasts and courier service providers not to charge customers for storage and not to return undeclared goods.

Businesses are asked to fill out customs declarations in the fallback mode if needed. The forms for the fallback mode are available on the SRS website at Forms | State Revenue Service.
