  1. I’m guessing it’s an island, he has paintings of Saaremaa and Ruhnu from what I found out, so maybe one of those. Or maybe it’s not any real place as he left Estonia in 1949, so it’s either painted from a photo or memory.

  2. I think it’s not painted in Estonia, because:

    1. Koch left from Estonia 1940.
    2. After the Soviet Union occupied Estonia, there nobody allowed go to sea – the whole country was like a prison. If Koch had to try make picture in seashore, he would certainly shot by russians as a spy
    3. in Estonia wasn’t this kind of ships
    4. Estonian fisherman didn’t wear dresses like in picture, especially in 1949
    5. 1940-1949 Koch lived in Hungary and Baier – there is no sea
    6. 6) 1949 Koch moved to USA, so I think there You have to make Your search.

  3. From 1930 is Koch`s drawing from Panga, at Saaremaa. Just over Undva bay are Ninase cliff(pank) and Tagaranna village. This place on painting is quite similar to Ninase. At that time where there also fisherman summer houses right by the coast line as seen here. Also was place where built and repaired ships as shown in the backround. Maybe Koch paint it by hes own old sketches or drawings.
